Our first full day in Cebu! After a long and well-deserved sleep, we all slowly came down to the common area in the inn for a great breakfast before Jenny and Einar picked us up for our first day at the worksite. We got to work straight away, clearing the grounds to prepare for digging the foundation which starts tomorrow! We had a great lunch with the whole Rise Above team at their headquarters, and then the boys were recruited for the rest of the afternoon to set up the tent which will shade most of the worksite to save us from the sun.
Everyone met back at the worksite later in the afternoon for the official ground-breaking ceremony--> the whole Rise Above team, as well as a group of Danish voluteers and a lot of the site's neighbours, joined us for a couple short welcoming speeches, the official ground-breaking "dig" of the project, and homemade ice cream and desserts! A quick dinner at an all-you-can-eat Philippino restaurant before heading home for some beers and a couple rounds of cards before bed. Onto some serious work tomorrow- the trenches!
